 The town's central main boulevard Lord Street is a mile long wide road that was built along the boundary bordering the lands of the two neighboring lords of the manor.
A superb shopping street today the exceptionally wide pavements with gardens along one side and an elegant glass topped canopy along most of the other side.
Off Lord Street there is one of the towns several covered arcades and built in 1898 Wayfarers Arcade is one of the best. The modest entrance opens out into a beautiful cast iron and glass conservatory with its first floor gallery and splendid central dome. Originally named the Leyland Arcade after the towns Member of Parliament, it took its present name in 1976 after the arcade's most successful leaseholder. |
