JOSEPH WHO DIED AGE 17 REMEMBERED WITH HONOUR Cargo liner Defoe, 6,245grt, (Lamport & Holt Line), built 1940 had been sailing from the U.K. to the Middle East when just of the coast of Scotland near Rockall an explosion blew off the ships bow on the 24th September 1942 killing six crew members. The ship was abandoned on fire. “On all the oceans white caps flow, you do not see crosses row on row, but those that sleep beneath the sea, rest in peace for your country is free.” |
