Emma Pendal at the young age of 19 emigrated to Australia.

Why did she go?

Was it to accompany her sister? Was it the adventure of a life time? Was it to get away from her old life and start a new?

Or was it to follow the man she loved?

As the family story goes (told to me by Linda K) Emma was not married but had had a child by a Tannington man who promised to marry her if she followed him to Australia.

Was he testing her love or was he stringing her along?

The passenger list, PRO Victoria Archives confirms that they sailed on the ship 'Sirocco'. When they arrived in Australia Emma's beau had fallen for someone else.

She soon met and married George Mole in Victroia 1863. They went on to have 13 children.
