Pinfold is a Medieval Britain term. Also known as a Pound this was an area in which stray animals were rounded up if their owners failed properly to supervise their use of common grazing land. They were released on payment of a fine by the owner.

The parish officer in charge was known as a Pinder, a Pinfold, a Poundkeeper or a Punder.
