Eye, Suffolk

The name is derived from the Saxon for an island, as this super little town was once surrounded by water and marshes. A crinkle crankle wall also known as a serpentine wall, it is built only one brick thick thus saving materials but because of its shape it is very strong and durable.

The Guildhall dates from the late 15th Century, the prestige of the building can be seen by how close together the studs or upright timbers are, when built these would not have been exposed as they are today.
