Clun, Shropshire

Clun bury, Clun ton, Clung and Clun are the quietest places under the sun....... Clun is one of the largest parishes in Shropshire set in the centre of the clun Forest. The town is a solitary but cheerful place where there always seems to be a great deal going on. Clun consists of two distinct parts. The 'old' town grouped round the Norman Church at the top of the hill, gave place to a new planned community on the other side of the river when the castle was built.

The bridge between them is a fine example of a packhorse bridge with pedestrian al coves..

The Clun Forest is worthy of a mention. By dictionary definition "forest" once meant a tract of woodland or wasteland preserved for game. In the sixteenth century it is recorded that the "faire Forest of Clun ne is a great forest of red deer and rose" not, you will note, of oak or elm.
