Bardwell is a charming village with many varied and interesting
buildings; it is situated about 8 miles from Bury St Edmunds.
The village was
used in several episodes of the hit TV comedy series "Dad's
Army".
The picture above is of one of the many thatched cottages in the
village.

The windmill dates from the Georgian period of 1825 and was built
with parts of a mill brought from nearby Ixworth. It was fully restored
to working
order
in the 1980's but is now undergoing restoration again after being
the only windmill in the country to sustain extensive damage during
the
Great Storm of October of 1987, when its sails were torn off.
